As I was going to be taking a lot of pictures I was going to use my current equipment which was a C anon 20D, 16mm-24mm lens and a 24mm-70mm lens. (Which I’m very used to.)I was also taking my laptop along so I needed one bag to carry both my camera and my laptop. This and my rugsack is what I would be lugging around the country side. I bought the bag and fitted everything comfortably, but all the equipment together was just too haevy and cumbersome, especially that I was going to a region with 80% humidity and temperatures in the 30’s. So I decided to leave my 20D at home, return the bag and buy a Canon G9 point and shoot. This camera I could easily carry and it also fitted into my laptop backpack.

After a few hours of getting to know how the camera and software works I realised that taking the G9 was the best decision that I could have made because besides everything being lighter,I was also much more mobile and the quality is fantastic.

My first bump back to reality was when I stopped over in Dubai only to realise  that Icould have saved about R2000,00 if i had bought the camera there. But hey… by now I had a complete understanding of the camera.

I arrived in Bangkok and bought an el cheapo, very lightweight tri pod for R100, 00. I was now ready.

My first project is to document the many markets around the city and once again my decision to use the G9 was justified as I need not have to constantly change lenses. I was also caught in some heavy rain and as the camera is so small I could quickly tuck it away.
